My career path has been such a rollercoaster.

When I started college, I was set on becoming a filmmaker. Then I switched to business. Then I added digital media. After graduating, I did none of those things and spent over a decade working in IT. Now I’m getting my master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy.

Part of me has always been jealous of people who had it all figured out from the very beginning.

Most people I know went to school for a specific degree and actually did something relevant with it. At this stage in life, so many of my peers are deep into their careers climbing the ladder, managing teams, and building legacies. I often find myself stuck in the trap of comparison, wishing I had chosen something more traditional.

I could have been so successful if I had just focused on one thing!

…right?

On the flip side, I’m grateful for the path I’ve taken. Despite all the pivots and plot twists, it’s allowed me to explore multiple passions and make a living while doing it. How could I possibly have chosen a lifelong career at 18? I barely knew who I was. I’m a completely different person now, and my LinkedIn profile reflects all the detours I’ve taken.

And underneath it all, there’s one thing that’s guided me: curiosity.

This month, I’ve started reading a book titled Tiny Experiments by Anne-Laure Le Cunff. It offers an alternative way of approaching goals, one that doesn’t rely on linear thinking. Instead of trying to climb a predefined career ladder, Anne shares how experimenting with small, intentional steps helped her build a life that feels aligned. I resonate deeply with this and look forward to diving further into the book in the coming weeks!
